A Declaration of War and a Clown Show
Crossing the Reality Rubicon at Quantico
By Robert Conlin Jr.
September 30, 2025, Quantico, Virginia:
A reality TV spectacle opening with the Secretary of Defense of the United States, followed by the President of the United States. A matinee double bill of Dumb and Dumber and Dr. Strangelove.
A forced conscription audience of 800 of the top military personnel in the U.S. Armed Forces in attendance.
A worldwide audience glued to their screens, watching to see whether the runaway train called Trump’s America would navigate the sharp curve or careen off the tracks in this not-so-suspenseful IRL horror show.
The reviews are in:
Stupefyingly stupid.
Incredibly insane.
Profoundly pathetic.
Deeply disturbing.

The train stayed on the tracks, but the brakemen jumped off as it gathered speed, and now all that’s left to stop it are haphazard and hastily-constructed barricades or a derailment and self-inflicted destruction.
Even these words feel inadequate to describe what we all witnessed on Tuesday. It would be nice to think we could find some comfort in knowing it was simply another manic episode in Trump’s Destroying America sitcom.
But the two delusional dimwits who cockwalked on that stage in front of an audience of stone-faced military brass can give the orders that could set the world on fire. And the people they ridiculed, badgered and disrespected were front and center in the audience – the ones who are supposed to carry out those orders.
At the very least, they made it crystal clear to our adversaries – China primarily – that America is no longer a threat and is ripe for the taking.
So let’s add ‘totally terrifying’ to the reviews as well.
Those poor generals and admirals in attendance were ordered to fly in from bases all over the world to Quantico. They could have easily thought they landed in Pyongyang, or Beijing, or Moscow.
Until the opening act opened his mouth. Any jet-lagged doubt they had would have been dispelled, because the bombastic, pseudo-warrior, fake Christian, MAGA-infected stupidity the tone-deaf SecDef put on display was a mish-mash of Trumpy MAGA talking points.
Give him his due, though; Hegseth gave a polished performance. No doubt he spent more time reading his lines and prepping and preening to meet his high grooming standards than he has in the last nine months of his actual job of leading the world’s largest military and defending the country from foreign adversaries.
In conclusion, we witnessed a former mid-level National Guard officer who sports white supremacy tattoos, has a well-documented history of drunken escapades, infidelity, and alleged sexual assault – including one in which he got into an altercation with a hotel staffer before allegedly sexually assaulting a woman who was not his first, second, or third wife – lecturing a hall full of accomplished and decorated career flag officers that they had allowed our military standards to slip to egregious levels.
Like any opening act, Hegseth’s job was to loosen up the crowd for the headliner. He performed that job about as well as he maintained OPSEC during the Iran bombing debacle. The silence in the hall as he exited the stage was the audience providing him with his career performance review.
POTUS came shuffling onstage like an aging Henny Youngman working a Borsch Belt wedding crowd. You could hear a page from the Epstein Files drop and the narcissist gear grinding in his orange-topped skull as he surveyed a sea of implacable faces.
“I’ve never walked into a room so silent before,” he says, all but begging for some applause. It never came.
What’s a performer do when his audience clearly doesn’t like him? Work to get them in the fold, right coach? Stroke their egos, talk about things like patriotism, honor, valor and sacrifice. Win them over.
Not this guy. Instead he threatened to demote them and ruin their careers if they demonstrate they don’t like him. There was some scattered nervous laughter. Sure, it was muted, but that should have been enough to placate him, right?
Nope. Demotions and career-wrecking weren’t batshit crazy and cruel enough. A pro’s pro, he worked towards his punchline as he shuffled through his overworked teleprompter reciting his greatest hits:
He deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping wars that never were between countries who barely know the other exists;
Navigating airplane stairs are tricky, but Obama was really good at it;
Everything bad that’s happening under his watch is Biden’s fault;
Tariffs were the most beautiful word ever, but now it’s fifth behind God, love, family and money. (Author’s note: because his Christian nationalist patrons reminded him to say that.)
To his credit, the rapidly sinking CINC did work in some new material:
He loves his signature. Everyone loves his signature (Except on Epstein’s birthday card);
He moved some submarines to the Russian coast (Hint, hint Vlad), couldn’t give away which type, but don’t get the N words mixed up. One is bad and can do a lot of damage, and the other some people don’t like.
All the while, he was softening the crowd up for his big reveal: China, Russia, North Korea, Iran – forget about them. We’re taking our ball and going home.
Your new focus will be on defending the homeland and rooting out the scum leftist Antifa and demonstrators. It will be great training for new recruits. It’s a win-win. They can get some combat experience and we can get rid of Democrats.
So all of you will be the ones who lead the fight. Unless you have a problem with that. In which case, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Mic drop. Show’s over. A United States President just declared war on his own citizens, and as a sidebar threatened his entire global military leadership in one fell swoop.
How do the sequels that are sure to come top that?
Stay tuned. We’re all Sisyphus now. The rock is huge, the mountain is steep. But we cannot stop pushing until the threat is over.

Did you hear DJT's comment about "bullets are cheaper than missiles" ? It's like he's stuck in a dementia-bound theater circa 1940s-1950s. Battleships? Really?! Technology has changed. War has changed. That much is obvious watching engagements and tactics that are taking place between Ukraine and Russia.
Dangerous. How on earth are any of our active military leadership tolerating this shit show?
