Demand #3: Overturn the Trans Ban
This is the third in a series of blog posts to explain 50501 Veterans’ Six Demands.
Overturn the Transgender Ban and Ensure Full Healthcare Access for Transgender Veterans and Active Duty Service Members
The current administration seeks to erase the stories and contributions of our diverse servicemembers – dismissing the valor of Black, LGBTQIA+ and female troops, as if inclusion itself were unpatriotic.
But let’s be clear: representation does not threaten military strength. It reinforces it.
Diversity in service reflects the very people our Constitution commands us to protect. It does not diminish anyone’s sacrifice.
It is not our duty to protect the public – and our elected officials – from their absurd insecurities. It is our duty to protect the Constitution and stand with all who have sworn to defend it.
The Transgender Ban Is a Betrayal of Service
The transgender ban is not merely about these soldiers, sailors, air warriors, Marines and guardians being excluded. It is a betrayal of all who raised their right hand, swore an oath and served honorably – often in silence, often at great personal risk. This ban echoes a long history of sidelining those who serve while Black, Muslim, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, Indigenous, or female – too often their courage is met with contempt instead of gratitude.
These patriots volunteered for hardship and sacrifice. They stand tall for our democracy while targeted by bigots within our own government. Many served more than 20 years and completed multiple overseas tours, frequently in combat zones. Now – in the middle of a recruiting crisis, no less – this administration is purging transgender troops rather than confront their own prejudice.
This ban doesn’t improve our national defense, especially now when the services can’t even meet their recruiting goals. It only weakens our Armed Forces.
The argument that transgender servicemembers fail to meet physical standards is contradicted by the Administration’s own data. Transgender troops match or exceed physical fitness scores. Senior military leaders say they pose no readiness burden.
This Isn’t About Readiness. It’s About Bias.
In 2020, a study of 195 active duty transgender service members found:
68% completed a deployment
40% deployed to combat zones
The group had above-average physical health, normal mood symptoms and few risk behaviors
Kicking them out isn’t just wrong – it’s reckless. It weakens our Armed Forces, damages morale and sends a chilling message: even if you’re willing to die for this country, your gender identity disqualifies you.
The disconnect is unreal, whether from a budget or readiness perspective. In 2017, the estimated cost of discharging transgender personnel was nearly $1 billion. At a time when DOGE claims it is all about efficiency, discharging transgender troops is a huge net loss.
On the mission side, 30 countries around the world allow transgender military service, with no negative impact on readiness reported. And there has been no negative impact on readiness reported here in the U.S. either. Ever. As Dominik Wullers said:
"Taking this privilege away from one specific group, not for military but ideological reasons, is more a statement about the excluder than the excluded. It says that even if someone is well qualified to protect you, you would rather accept a military disadvantage than to be protected by someone from that group. You would rather agree to a greater threat against your values, your family, and yourself than to allow someone from the excluded community to pick up a weapon and stand in harm’s way on your behalf."
A Call to Conscience
While our Commander-in-Chief cozies up to autocrats and abandons long-time democratic allies, transgender service members still have the watch. Many remain in the ranks, still serving in silence about their gender identity.
Yet they still uphold their oath. Still defend the Constitution. Still serve nobly, with pride and honor.
And still are told their service is no longer wanted.
This ban keeping transgender patriots from serving is shameful, un-American and must be reversed.
50501 Vets stands for and with our transgender siblings.
We stand with those honorably serving this country.
We stand with the Constitution.
We stand against tyranny.
“[W]hen tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty.” — Thomas Jefferson

I wish they would. and the reason why is because who the hell cares what is under the ACU’s if they know how to use an M4 and have known how to use the M4 since they signed on the doted line who the hell cares when they have to go to combat what is under the ACU since no one wears BDU’s longer. I mean Jiminy cricket did they know how to go to Afghanistan? Did they know how to join and go to Iraq and go fight in 911 anywhere in between wearing BDU and ACU’s and everything who the hell cares what is underneath them?
