Two Ways to Honor Veterans This Veterans Day: Service and Solidarity
Will You Answer the Call to Stand with our Veteran Community?
As Veterans Day 2025 approaches, we have dual opportunities to support and stand with our Veteran community — through direct service Stand Down events to help homeless and at-risk Veterans, and through public solidarity in the “No Oaths to Trump” visibility campaign.
Both of these activities represent critical ways to honor the oath our Veterans took to defend the Constitution.
Supporting Veterans in Crisis: Stand Down Events
What Are Stand Down Events?
Stand Down events are one- to three-day gatherings that provide critical services to homeless and at-risk Veterans. These events offer everything from food, clothing, and health screenings to legal assistance, benefits counseling, and housing resources—all in a safe, supportive environment designed specifically for Veterans.
The term “Stand Down” originates from the military practice of removing exhausted combat units from the battlefield to a secure area for rest and recovery. This year’s Veterans Day Stand Downs serve the same purpose: providing our Veterans with a safe space to regroup, access essential services, and begin their journey toward stability.
Your Toolkit for Organizing Stand Down Events
Planning a Stand Down event may seem daunting at first, but you don’t have to start from scratch. The 50501 Veterans Day Toolkit provides comprehensive guidance for organizing impactful Veteran service events in your community.
This resource walks you through:
Event planning fundamentals and timelines
Connecting with local Veteran service organizations
Recruiting volunteers and coordinating services
Outreach strategies to connect with Veterans in need
Best practices from successful Stand Down events nationwide
Connect with Existing Stand Down Events
Before starting from scratch, check what’s already happening in your area. The VA’s Homeless Veterans Events page maintains a comprehensive calendar of Stand Down events across the country. You can:
Find events near you to attend or support
Learn from established programs in your region
Identify gaps in coverage where new events are needed
Connect with organizers who can share their lessons learned
The statistics are sobering: on any given night, tens of thousands of Veterans experience homelessness. Many more are at risk, struggling with unemployment, mental health challenges, or difficulty accessing the benefits they’ve earned.
Stand Down events provide a critical lifeline — often serving as the first step toward permanent housing and stability.
Standing With Veterans: No Oaths to Trump Visibility Events
While Stand Down events address the immediate needs of Veterans in crisis, there’s another way to honor all Veterans — by standing in solidarity with their commitment to the Constitution on Veterans Day.
Veterans Day: No Oaths to Trump
On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, veterans and supporters across the nation will gather on overpasses and bridges for visibility events with a powerful message:
Veterans take their oaths to the Constitution seriously, not to any individual leader.
The military oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic” has deep meaning for service members, even after their service has ended. Many veterans are outraged at how the current administration blatantly violates the Constitution on a daily basis.
How to Participate
Create or join an overpass visibility event at:
https://www.mobilize.us/nooathstotrump/c/no-oaths-to-trump-veterans-day/event/create/
These events involve:
Displaying banners on freeway overpasses where millions will see them
Vet-positive statements focused on constitutional oaths
Non-violent, lawful assembly under First Amendment rights
Coordination with other groups across the U.S. for maximum impact
Banner Message Examples
Banners for Veterans should emphasize what they DO support:
Veterans Stand By Their Oaths
Vets Defend the Constitution
Our Oaths Mean Something
No One Makes an Oath to a President
Veterans Protect the Constitution
Our Oaths Never Expire
Banners for allies of Veterans should emphasize what they as allies DO support:
We Support Veterans’ Rights
We Stand for Veterans’ Housing
We Back Mental Health Care for Vets
Important Guidelines
**Commitment to Non-Violence:** All events must be conducted lawfully and responsibly. No weapons are permitted at any events. Sidewalks and roadways must not be blocked, and banners cannot be suspended beyond the pedestrian side of bridge rails.
**Veterans’ Voices First:** While everyone is welcome to participate, Veterans should be involved in planning local events so they truly represent messages from Vets. Reach out to local Veteran groups to involve them.
**Check Your Area First:** Before creating an event, check the event map: https://www.mobilize.us/nooathstotrump/map/ to see if others are already organizing in your area.
2 Fronts, 1 Mission
This Veterans Day, Veterans and allies alike can serve on two fronts:
Direct Service: Organize or volunteer at Stand Down events to provide immediate, tangible support to homeless and at-risk Veterans. Use the 50501 Veterans Day Toolkit and connect with events through the VA’s calendar.
Public Solidarity: Join or create overpass visibility events through Mobilize.us to amplify Veterans’ voices in defending the Constitution they swore to protect.
Both actions honor the same fundamental truth:
Veterans made a sacred commitment to defend our Constitution and our democracy. We honor that commitment by ensuring our Veterans everywhere have the support they need and by standing with them when they speak out to defend the principles they served to protect.

The Call
Every Veteran who receives services at a Stand Down event represents a life we can help transform. Every person — Veteran or ally — who stands on a bridge on Veterans Day amplifies the voices of those who swore to defend our Constitution.
This Veterans Day, let’s show what it truly means to support our Veterans — not just with words, but with action. Whether you’re providing direct services to those Veterans in need or standing in solidarity with those Veterans defending our democratic principles, you’re honoring the oath our Veterans took.
Will you answer the call?

We have to end this evil nightmare!
RESISTANCE UNITED
THE FIGHT TO SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY IS NOT OVER! IMPERATIVE NEXT STEPS!!!
No Kings Day was a spectacular display of Solidarity! Great to see the resistance growing but the fight to save our democracy is far from over. The Resistance Must Unite!
We are struggling to meet our goal to bring down the tRump. All of our resistance efforts have failed. Seven million just isn't enough! We only need a mere 3.5% or 11 million American citizens exhibiting ongoing daily SUSTAINED resistance to meet this goal. Going to a protest every few months is not going to accomplish anything! We must choose to do something every day to show that we want our democracy back. Resistance United gives everyone opportunities and options to build and support the new Civil Rights Movement daily!
STEP 1) Spread the Word - Warn everyone about the evil coming out of the White House. Make our resistance actions go viral!
There is no movement without Calls for Action! We must become vigilant about Spreading the Word. Share your own stories about how the tRump's brutal cuts effect you. Read and share the links throughout this article. Make them go viral! They give you something to talk about and explain why everyone should be supporting this New Civil Rights Movement.
Senator Sanders talks about the disparities between the MAGA rich and the average American. The numbers are outrageous! The billionaire oligarchs must pay their employees fair wages and pay the same taxes we do!

THE LYING KING
The tRump is hurting Democrats and Republicans a like - they just don't know it yet. An overview of the hate the tRump has unleashed in America.

STEP 2) STOP SHOPPING and spending money unnecessarily! Quit making the billionaire oligarchs richer! They are the true rulers of this country. They control how the government is run. They underpay their workers and hog all the wealth for themselves! We must demand better wages and the end of the administration from hell!!! Boycott billionaire chain businesses and they themselves will call for the tRump's resignation!
We can't do everything, so we're giving you options. Use the lists below to find ways to resist everyday. If you can support these economic resistance movements:
BOYCOTT XMAS Economic Slow Down:

BLACKOUT THE SYSTEM:

STEP 3) OCCUPY DC to continue to show the world that the American Stands United!
OCCUPY DC is a sustained occupation of the nation’s capital. The vision is to bring millions of people to DC to “surround the White House; surround the Capitol; and surround the Supreme Court” everyday, in a sustained, non-violent way, beginning Nov 5, and lasting until the Trump regime falls. This IS NOT a one day march or rally.
More information about OCCUPY DC Mass Movement: https://onemommy.substack.com/p/occupy-dc-mass-movement-starting?r=113nff
PROTESTS show the world we're willing to stand up for our civil rights! Many communities have weekly protest that are just as important as our mass protests. Find a chapter near you.
SLOWING DOWN THE ECONOMY is a safe and powerful way to resist for those can't risk their jobs or are afraid to attend a protest.
OCCUPING DC is for our brave civilian heroes and peaceful warriors willing to go all out to save our democracy!
